I Schubert 01 May 2005
Stayed at  Century Riverside Hotel Hue - Hue, Vietnam.
The recommended restaurant of Coco & Min has moved about 100m down the street. It is a bit hidden away from the street. Ask the cyclo drivers for the way.

We spent 2 days in Hue and particularly enjoyed visiting the Imperial City as well as Tu Duc's and Minh Mang's tombs. Allow at least 2 hours looking around the Imperial city and get a guide to show you around. We hired a taxi to take us to Tu Duc's tomb which cost just over $3 and the driver waited around for us. We hired a boat on the river to go to Minh Mang's tomb and the Pagoda of Heavenly Lady. While it was a pleasant boat ride if you were pushed for time in Hue, I would do these sites by taxi as the boat ride was fairly long and a bit monotonous. A restaurant I would recommend is La Carambole in Pham Ngu Lao.

Hue is a wonderful destination in Vietnam. Highly recommended to spend 2 full days: one day sightseeing in/around Hue. Second day rent a boat for a cruise / sightseeing up the Perfume river.

Stayed at  Saigon Morin - Hue, Vietnam.
I was in Hue for work on this trip so did little sight seeing. However, if you are looking for a good restaurant (though it is frequented largely by tourists), try La Carambole - owned by a Frenchman married to a local woman and who has lived in Hue for ten years. The kite dragons hanging from the ceiling and the friendly staff give the place a great ambience. And you can drink a glass of wine with your meal!

K Puri 27 June 2004
Stayed at  Saigon Morin - Hue, Vietnam.
Visit the Imperial City and a couple of tombs (motorbike visit to the tombs was fun). The market is over-rated - skip it if you have been to the one in Saigon. Restaurant choices are poor compared to Hanoi and HCMC - none to recommend except for La Cambarole which was a good stop for more casual fare. Watch out for the cyclos - they overcharge here relative to rest of the country.

Hue is a nice city. The Mandarin Cafe, just opposite the hotel, is a great place to eat and to book tours of the surrounding area.

Stayed at  Saigon Morin - Hue, Vietnam.
The Citadel and Forbidden City are very interesting-we were there for Tet and witnessed a beautiful fireworks display. We recommend renting motorcycles and exploring the countryside-beautiful!!

T Kao 07 November 2003
Stayed at  Saigon Morin - Hue, Vietnam.
Visited the citadel on the first day, and was interesting to wander around the vast grounds. The next day, hired a private car for $20 to visit Thien Mu Pagoda and three Emperor's tombs - Ming Mang, Khai Dinh, Tu Duc. All were worth seeing except for the pagoda. The pagoda was unremarkable in my opinion.

We allowed a week for Hue, which was probably 3 days too long. The things to do in Hue are: visit the Citadel, take a boat trip to visit the mausoleums and beautiful temples, visit the embroidery factory and if you're feeling brave, hire bikes and cycle 14km to the beach. There's a great bar in the centre of Hue - the DMZ bar - which is a travellers' spot. Great for pool, beer and exchanging stories.

Stayed at  Huong Giang Hotel - Hue, Vietnam.
Great for DMZ tours - highly recommended - used Sinh Tour Desk at the Mandarin Cafe. Guide superb - very knowledgable. Beware most persistent cyclos we experienced in Vietnam were in Hue. Two characters followed us for 30 minutes before calling off.
