Koh Samui has all the ingredients for a great family holiday - great beaches, tranquil resorts, lively evening entertainment for all ages and great value restaurants - especially Italian if this takes your fancy! It's a bit of a shoppers paradise too - especialy for high quality tailored cloths & eye glasses which we only buy form here now - more than 50% cheaper than Europe.

Koh Samui is a nice beach resort with decent shopping area and night life. It is far from a deserted island, but it has protected its beautiful natural scenery. For instance, you won't find many fat Germans looking for a young Thai girl like in Phuket and Pattaya. Beautiful tropical style airport. Excellent tourist service throughout. Highly advisable destination for a relaxed beach oriented holiday. Nice young crowd and at 20 min. From the best fool moon party in the world.

I'd recommend renting a motorbike to get around the island (for about $800 Baht/week). The taxis are readily available, but beware that the prices go up as the night progresses. Everything is negotiable just about, but the merchants (in Chaweng) are less affable than those in Bangkok and Chiangmai because they have less sales competition. Everything is quite close & within minutes of the bungalow. Chaweng beach is very touristy, but if that's what you're looking for...then it's great. Otherwise, I'd suggest trying the other beaches which are not so crowded and have much to offer.

Koh Samui is beautiful. I would recommend it to anyone. Shopping is great there, market style only. Make sure you stay somewhere with a pool as the beaches aren't great swimming beaches, except for Lamai which was my personal favourite....beautiful. Eating is FANTASTIC.....make sure you give the local cuisine a go, look for the busy and non-fancy looking places for the best and cheapest thai food. Also WILL WAIT bakery is great and cheap and every night they show movies (as do plenty of other places) and it's yummy! Rent a jeep and spend a day driving around the whole island......beautiful!!

Love Ko Samui. We have been to Ko-Pee pee and think Ko Samui is the better choice for an overall good time of beach, pool, expoloring and shopping fun. David
